The Devil & Tom Walker

Trustworthiness and Thankfulness

In this essay you're going to be reading about how this two values: trustworthiness and thankfulness, if they're either present in the story of "The Devil and Tom Walker" or not.

Trustworthiness is the value in which someone is worth of your trust, someone in which you can rely on, who's always by your side and it's faithful or loyal.
Thankfulness is when you express of gratitude or that you appreciate something , being grateful of what life provides us, what we own, our family and the people around us.

First of all, at the beginning of the story we can appreciate Tom and his wife in a uncomfortable situation in which both Tom nor his wife trusted each other. They were on a constant competition with one another, hiding stuff, seeing who was the one who gets first the things. They were never thankful of what they owned, both of them were constantly complaining that they lived a miserable life, but they didn't even appreciate what they had, they just saw the bad things in their surroundings.

Then, Tom meets with the devil and trusts in him. Here is the first situation in which we can acknowledge the presence of trustworthiness appear in the story.Tom sold his soul to the devil in exchange of riches and wealthiness.
The devil told him where the treasure the pirates had hide was buried. He kept the secret from his wife, but he couldn't resist so he told her where it was.But she went behind his back, so she was a person not worth of Tom's trust.

Trustworthiness is also present in the story in the part in which Tom becomes a censurer which lawned money to people in the town, and people from this place trusted in him, that he will help them, but Tom's main goal was to swindle, scam them, to obtain everything from them. He wasn't satiated enough with what he already owned.

In conclusion trustworthiness was present in the story  but also it's anti value was present too in a way that people could sense it. And for thankfulness it was not present in the story cause the characters were very greedy and ungrateful.
